Our team aims to provide an excellent level of care and high-quality treatment to patients of all ages. We know how to treat kids and adults, and given our penchant for creating a relaxed atmosphere, our dentists in Canning Vale know how to make your visit as relaxing and comfortable as possible.

Dr. Serene Ong - Dentist

Dr. Serene was born in Singapore and grew up in Perth. After graduating from the University of Western Australia in 2012, she gained most of her experience in country private practice. She prioritises staying up to date on the latest advances in dentistry by attending continuing education courses.

Dr. Serene bought Genesis Dental in December 2021 as part of her plan to settle down in Perth. Creating a comfortable atmosphere and providing a stress-free experience, along with delivering the highest quality dental treatment, are Dr. Serene’s main goals for her patients. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and works closely with her patients to create personalised treatment plans. Dr. Serene places a special focus on holistic and minimally invasive dental treatments.

Duties:

In addition to general dentistry, Dr. Serene has a particular interest in Mandibular Advancement Splints for Sleep-Disordered Breathing and is qualified to provide Nitrous Oxide sedation.

Her philosophy on oral health is heavily focused on prevention and she believes that education is the key to good oral health. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime!

Qualifications:

Dr. Serene has spent most of her career in rural WA, including Geraldton (2013), Karratha (2014-2019), and Kalgoorlie (2020-2022) after graduating from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Dental Science (2012). She enjoys attending professional development courses to stay up to date on the latest advancements in the dental healthcare field.

Interests outside of Work/Qualities:

Dr. Serene loves enjoying the beauty of Australia. When she is not in scrubs, there’s a good chance you’ll find her spearfishing, adventuring, camping, spending time with family, practicing yoga, or exploring nature in some way.

Dr. Ben Luu - Dentist

After a lifelong interest in dentistry, Dr. Ben studied at The University of Western Australia and graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science Honours Degree in 2010. He enjoys attending educational courses to stay up to date on the latest dental technology, techniques, and equipment.

Dr. Ben is passionate about his role as a Dentist and enjoys seeing people smile, especially those who haven’t smiled for a while. For Dr. Ben, the most fulfilling aspect of being a dentist is seeing the positive changes in patients as their smiles improve.

Helping patients achieve a healthy smile they can’t wait to show off is what makes dentistry ‘more than a job’ to him.

Duties:

Dr. Ben is a patient and gentle dentist who aims to help patients keep their teeth for life. He has a special interest in ceramic crown and bridge dentistry.

Qualifications:

Dr. Ben graduated from the University of Western Australia with a BDSc (Honours) in 2010. He spent six years in a coastal SA private practice before moving back to sunny Perth to join the team at Genesis Dental in 2016.

Interests outside of Work/Qualities:

When he is out of the clinic, you will find Dr. Ben chasing after his cheeky toddler or catching up on the latest NBA highlights. His personal hobbies include travelling, playing basketball or squash, and relaxing with yoga or Pilates.

Dr. Ashleigh Furfaro - Dentist

Dr. Ashleigh earned a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Western Australia. She enjoys expanding her knowledge of the dentistry world by attending lectures and seminars on various aspects of new dental techniques and advancements.

Dr. Ashleigh was meant to be a dentist. Her love of the dental field and commitment to her patients is clear at every appointment. Her favourite aspect of dentistry is making her patients feel at ease during their visits and thrilled with their smiles.

Duties:

Dr. Ashleigh provides various dental treatments including fillings, crowns, emergency care, and root canal treatments. She has a special interest in preventive and restorative care.

Qualifications:

Dr. Ashleigh completed both her undergraduate Bachelor of Science and postgraduate dental degree (Doctor of Dental Medicine) at the University of Western Australia. She enjoys completing continuing education to stay knowledgeable about the latest technology and techniques in the dental field.

Interests outside of Work/Qualities:

In her spare time, Dr. Ashleigh likes spending time with family, gardening, travelling, or curling up with a good book and a cup of tea. She also spends a good deal of time in the kitchen whipping up a variety of baked goods and sweet treats. Perhaps her most interesting hobby is trying to take her beloved cat Clover on walks!

Dr. Amanda Lau - Dentist

After graduating from the University of Western Australia with honours in 2009, Amanda completed a research honours degree. Initially, Amanda moved to Albany to help fill the shortage of dentists there.

Although she only intended to stay for a couple of years, she worked in Albany for over a decade. Recently — and with some slight reluctance because the fishing isn’t as good! — she relocated back to Perth. We’re honoured to have her as part of our team here at Genesis Dental.

Duties:

Dr. Amanda enjoys all aspects of dentistry. She is passionate about building long-term relationships with her patients and helping them achieve good oral health through preventive care and education. One of the greatest joys of her work is helping her patients overcome their dental anxieties.

Amanda is trained in using nitrous oxide (happy gas) and does an exceptional job of creating a calm atmosphere for her patients. Her reassuring demeanor, knowledge of treating dental anxiety, and commitment to her patients have allowed her to help many people overcome their dental fears.

Qualifications:

Dr. Amanda graduated from the University of Western Australia with honours in 2009, winning numerous prizes as a student. She also completed a research honours degree, with a specific focus on composite restorations (white fillings).

She is a member of the Australian Dental Association and regularly attends professional development courses to ensure that her knowledge and practices are consistent with the highest standards.

Interests outside of Work/Qualities:

Dr. Amanda strongly believes in helping the underprivileged and vulnerable members of society. She has previously travelled to Vietnam as a volunteer dentist with Christian Health Aid Team to provide dental treatment at orphanages. Dr. Amanda also regularly volunteers at St Patrick’s Community Support Centre as a dentist, providing free dental treatment for people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.

Outside of work, Dr. Amanda is a cellist in the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoys being outside, fishing, hiking/bushwalking, and camping.

Rebecca Byl - Head Dental Assistant

Rebecca has over 30 years experience as a dental assistant having completed her Certificate of Proficiency at the Dental Assistants Association in January 1995, receiving the annual Dr W. Dermer Prize for Top Clinical Student.

Rebecca was first exposed to the dental industry as a high school student observing and volunteering at a local dental practice in the school holidays which sparked a passion for the dental health industry.

Rebecca’s experience means she has extensive knowledge of the procedures and treatments available at Genesis Dental and is able to provide a superior standard of patient care. Her attention to detail and positive nature ensures patients receive the best possible experience and outcomes from their dental treatments.

The team at Genesis Dental create a family friendly atmosphere and the common goals we all share towards the high level of patient care provided is something she is very proud of.

During her spare time Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family and when time permits, she enjoys nothing more than camping trips with her partner and two dogs or spending time fishing, boating and kayaking at their beach shack in the south west.

Nicole Mussel - Practice
Co-ordinator

Nicole joined the Genesis in 2021. Depending on the day you’ll either find her at the Reception desk or assisting alongside on of the Dentists. Nicole has 25 years of experience in the dental field, 15 years working in Orthodontics and 10 years in General Dental. Nicole places great importance on patients feeling welcome and cared for when visiting the practice and will go to above qnd beyond to achieve this. Nicole feels at home at Genesis and enjoys working in an exceptional team of motivated, professional and fun staff.

When not at work you’ll find Nicole on the sidelines of the local netball courts or football fields watching and cheering her daughters on.

It’s safe to say Nicoles passion is food, she can talk about it all day and in her spare time she’ll either be hosting a dinner party or eating out with friends. Her dream would be to travel the world, learning to cook each cuisine along the way.

Dr. Alice Bowen

Dr. Alice Bowen - Locum Dentist

We are pleased to have Alice joining the team as a locum dentist until June 2024.

Originally from the Isle of Man, Dr Alice qualified as a dentist from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and has worked in the U.K, Ireland and Australia practicing as a general dentist with a particular interest in children’s dentistry.

After graduating, Dr Alice was accepted onto the Scottish NHS VT programme, where she completed a year of mentored training and further skills development with experienced dental clinicians. Whilst in Scotland Dr Alice also completed her examinations to become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Wishing to expand on her love and skills in children’s dentistry, Dr Alice worked as a house officer at Crumlin Children’s Hospital- Ireland’s largest acute children’s hospital- in a team of paediatric dental specialists.

Trained in the use of nitrous oxide- “Happy Air”- Dr Alice can offer an option to reduce the anxiety associated with dental treatment; nitrous oxide working especially well for the treatment of children.

Dr Alice is a general dentist and enjoys variety to her work, meeting all ages and stages and working with them to achieve their oral health goals. As a member of the GDC, IDA and ADA, Dr Alice regularly attends courses to ensure she is up to date on the latest technology and treatments for her patients.

Outside of Dentistry, Alice enjoys netball, sea swimming and she’s on a quest to find Perth’s best bakery!

Kelly Jones

I have 14 years experience as a Dental Nurse, graduating in 2010 from Dental Nursing Australia with my Certificate III and Certificate IV. I was Awarded the ‘Professional Clinical Excellence Award‘

Upon graduating I have worked in both Government Adult and Children and Private practices. I worked for a Specialist Prosthodontist for 7 years in where I was the Head Nurse, before sadly he retired and it was time move on. I have been the Practice Coordinator managing previous Dental practice and all aspects of reception and ordering, but my love and preference is hands on in the clinic.

I have experience in assisting in many surgical procedures, Implants, Bone Grafts, Sinus Lifts, mixing of bloods using white cells for patients better healing and recovery. I have also been the Infection Control Coordinator. I’ve also worked in a Specialist Paediatric Dentist where I assisted many children with special needs and also attending Day Surgery procedures under General Anaesthetic.

Although I love all aspects of dentistry, I have a strong passion, desire and love for Implants, Oral Surgery and Theatre procedures.

I love helping and getting to know my patients and being with them from the start of their dental journey, ongoing continuing care and having the rapport with them. Making them feel as comfortable as possible and making the trip to dentist a fun experience and where you want to come to your appointment and most importantly seeing them smile. Dentistry is very rewarding.

When I’m not working I have 5 children, a strong love for the gym and bodybuilding and spending time with my granddaughter, enjoying the outdoors and my Moodle dog Molly.

Kahlani De Vorms
