Root Canal Treatment

Root canals do have a bit of a bad reputation in the public arena. At Genesis Dental, we try to make painful procedures as comfortable as possible for patients. Again, every patient is different – some hardly feel a thing! Get in touch today for more information about root canal treatment.

Root Canal Treatment Steps

If the nerve of your tooth has become infected, it may be necessary to have a root canal treatment to eliminate the infection and save the tooth. Root canal treatments involve cleaning out the infected tooth, treating it with medication to remove infection, filling it, and sealing it with a permanent filling. Root Canal Causes

As mentioned earlier, infection in the root tissue of the teeth is the cause. You may get in infection through a crack or chip in your tooth or deep-rooted decay that hasn’t been treated. To prevent needing a root canal, it is imperative that you go for regular check-ups at your dentist and follow a regular brushing and flossing routine. By looking after your teeth and gums, the chances of you getting an infection is less likely.

How do you know if you need a root canal?

We often experience pain and sensitivity when the enamel of our teeth is compromised. For the most part, a simple filling can fix the problem. However, if the pain starts becoming unbearable, you experience extreme sensitivity to hot or cold food or you start noticing some discolouration around your tooth, swelling or tenderness, it’s probably time for a root canal treatment.

Root Canal Side Effects

Due to the developments in technology and advanced equipment, the likelihood of you experiencing side effects are very slim. However, like most dental procedures, if you don’t follow the after-care instructions, your recovery could be compromised.

After your root canal treatment, you may feel some sensitivity and swelling, but this can be combatted with pain-relief medication that your dentist will usually prescribe to you.
